Attic Baffles for Proper Ventilation & Energy Efficiency

Protect your attic and insulation with professional baffle installation.

Reliable Combustion Appliance Testing by Local Experts

Attic baffles are rigid channels installed between the rafters in your attic, right where the roof meets the exterior wall. Their job is straightforward: they keep your blown-in or batt insulation from blocking the soffit vents while maintaining a clear airflow path from the soffits up to the ridge vent.

Without them, insulation shifts over time and chokes off ventilation — something we see constantly in Pocatello-area homes, especially after a few harsh winters. When your attic can’t breathe, moisture builds up, ice dams form, and your insulation loses effectiveness. Baffles prevent all of that.

What's included:

Professional measurement and baffle sizing for your specific rafter spacing and roof pitch

Repositioning of any displaced insulation blocking your existing soffit vents

Installation of code-compliant ventilation baffles at every rafter bay along the eave line

Post-install airflow verification to confirm proper ventilation from soffit to ridge

Our Process

We follow a rigorous process to ensure your insulation is installed correctly and performs as expected.
01

Inspect

We examine your attic's current ventilation, insulation condition, and rafter spacing.

02

Prepare

We clear displaced insulation away from soffit areas and clean the rafter bays.

03

Install

We secure baffles in each rafter bay, ensuring a continuous air channel to the ridge.

04

Verify

We confirm unobstructed airflow and proper insulation contact on all sides.

The Long-Term Benefits

Attic baffles help maintain proper airflow, prevent moisture, and extend insulation life.

Prevents ice dam formation

Extends the life of your roof

Lowers heating and cooling bills

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about Attic Baffles

Do I need attic baffles if I already have soffit vents?

Soffit vents only work if air can actually move through them. In most homes we inspect around Pocatello, blown-in insulation has shifted over the soffits and is partially or fully blocking airflow. Baffles create a permanent channel that keeps that path open regardless of how your insulation settles.

Yes, and this is one of the main reasons homeowners in our area call us. Ice dams happen when heat escapes into the attic, melts snow on the roof, and the water refreezes at the eaves. Baffles help by allowing cold outside air to flow along the roof deck, keeping the surface temperature even and reducing the melt-freeze cycle.

We reposition insulation as part of the installation — we don’t remove it. In many cases, we actually improve your insulation coverage by moving material that had piled up in the wrong places back to where it does the most good.

If you notice uneven temperatures upstairs, frost on your roof sheathing, or visible moisture in the attic during winter, your baffles may be damaged, missing, or were never installed. We can assess this in a standard attic inspection.

For a typical Pocatello-area home, most installations are completed in a half day. Larger homes or attics with access challenges may take a full day.
